ELEMENTARY INDIVIDUAL CLASSES

Math Classes

Tuesday & Thursday 9:30 - 11:00

Individualized Math Lessons with Concept Support Activities meets bi-weekly for 30 weeks.

Individualized lessons are taught and participation in our math concept lab is included. Our Math Concepts Lab incorporates activities, media, games, projects, and critical thinking challenges to enhance learning and provide a rich experience while eliminating gaps in knowledge.

Math B begins with addition and subtraction facts to 18, place value to the thousands, geometry, measurement, time, money, and basic fractions. 4-digit addition and 2-digit mental addition is also incorporated. Problem solving and place value are emphasized throughout. 

Math C continues to build on known addition and subtraction facts, working with 4-digit addition and subtraction and 2-digit mental calculations and introducing multiplication and fractions. Other topics include area and perimeter, measurement, money, time, and basic fractions. They also work with drawing tools to explore geometric designs. Problem solving is emphasized.

Math Lessons continue in Math D to build on the meaning and properties of multiplication and division, along with the basic facts. Other topics include multiplying a 4-digit number by a 1-digit number, rounding, numbers to millions, area and measurement in both the US customary and metric systems, fractions, and graphing. The children continue work with geometry and angles using drawing tools. Problem solving with all four operations is emphasized. Daily card games are included in the lessons. Homework also includes card games for practice and to cement skills.

Language Arts

Our Elementary Language Arts program provides a rich study of many topics that make language study relevant and of high interest to students, giving context to their lessons.  Phonics, spelling, grammar, handwriting, vocabulary, literary elements, writing, critical thinking, and public speaking are all part of our Language Arts course of study.

Elementary Language Arts Classes

Elementary language arts includes hands-on lessons, games, activities, and practice in phonics or spelling, grammar, handwriting, creative expression, literature concepts, reading, critical thinking and vocabulary. In addition to small group lessons, we provide our concept lab to incorporate activities, media, games, projects, and critical thinking challenges to enhance learning and provide a rich experience.


Description of Elementary Language Levels

Beginners

Phonics readiness and ongoing assessments, introductory phonics, phonics lessons, introductory grammar, handwriting, oral communication skills, creative expression, vocabulary, literatary concepts, and critical thinking.  

Basics 

Advanced phonics and spelling, grammar, handwriting, oral communication skills, creative expression, vocabulary, literature concepts, reading, and critical thinking.

Intermediate

Spelling, grammar, literature, critical thinking, handwriting, creative expression, research, public speaking practice, book creation, story telling, journaling, and collaborative language-based projects.

MIDDLE SCHOOL INDIVIDUAL CLASSES

MATH

Levels E - Pre-Algebra is where we solidify a students knowledge of arithmetic, vocabulary, the four operations, decimals, fractions, percents, geometry, pre-algebra, and practical skills.  Our hands-on, visual curriculum provides opportunities for students to use the math skills and knowledge they have attained for a true mastery of concepts.  They may start Algebra I at any time they are ready.

SCIENCE

Middle School Science is a 3-year rotation of topics including, but not limited to, physical science, biology, astronomy, geology, chemistry, technology, scientists, archaeology,  and more.  All of our courses include hands-on demonstrations, experiments, and collaborative projects with the option of research and reading homework.

LANGUAGE ARTS

Middle School English I and II are literature based and include a variety of practices, projects and assignments chosen for their high interest to students, leading to mastery of communication through the spoken and written word.  Creative expression, practical skills, dictation, reading of quality literature, literary elements and analysis, grammar, vocabulary, critical thinking, reasoning, research, collaborative projects, and public speaking are all included in our literature based language arts classes.

HISTORY

World Cultures is a 3-year rotation in which we study  continents, cultures, and countries such as Africa, Middle East, Antarctica, Pacific Islands, Australia, Russia, Japan, China, India, Latin, and South America.  All of our courses include literature, presentations, geography, history, cultures, and art projects based on each culture. Writing projects, dictation, grammar, and spelling are also included.

Our literature and project based History courses cover people, events, and facts with an emphasis on the stories of history from a variety of viewpoints using media, literature, podcasts, movies, and research assignments.   We provide literature and information books for the year in addition to all materials necessary to complete projects. Students will have reading and short research assignments to complete between class meetings.

High School Math is for those ready for Algebra I and beyond, although we offer a combined Pre-Algebra/Algebra I group if needed.  Students choose a digital or print curriculum and work independently during Math Lab.  An experienced tutor is available to answer questions while the students works through the curriculum independently. Placement, assessments, and accountability are also provided.

We help teens learn how to think, argue, and create their own writing style. Students learn essay writing, including compare and contrast, narrative writing,  expository,  writing thesis statements, documenting sources, paraphrasing, and viewpoint.
